Deputy director

Position Objective:
The Deputy Director for Ukraine will report directly to the Country Director with the overall objective of assisting in the management of the Bank’s operations in Ukraine. Within the framework of tasks to be specifically delegated, he/she will be expected to:
• fully support the Country Director in promoting the Bank, its mission and business objectives in the country by sharing the workload of management, advocacy, investor relations, marketing and other activities of the Ukraine Country Team
• maintain and further develop key relations with senior Government officials, local financial institutions and the business community at large.
• take the lead in the Bank’s business development strategy vis-à-vis enterprises
• assume responsibility for coaching and development of Resident Office staff in structuring and executing private projects with foreign and local corporate sponsors
• develop and lead new projects and new products

Key Responsibilities:

Representation
• Deputize for the Country Director, when requested and act as the Bank’s representative to: the Ukrainian Government and authorities; the local business community; the international community including other IFI’s and bi-lateral donors; NGO’s; the general public; and the press.
• represent BANK on the Boards of companies and banks where appropriate

Operations
• Take an active role in the timely preparation and updating of the country strategy for Ukraine
• Originate and lead new projects in the private sector.
• Develop the Bank’s pipeline by keeping contacts with local enterprises, multi-nationals, investment funds and banks, in close co-ordination with sector team directors and staff.
• Assume a leading role in the monitoring of key projects in close contact with the Portfolio Manager in HQ.
• Provide on the job support/coaching/supervision of local professionals in project screening, due diligence, modeling and structuring.
Staff Management and Administration
• To assist the Country Director in the management and organization of the Country Team, and assume Acting Country Director responsibilities in his absence.
• Assist the Country Director in all aspects of the Resident Office's operation, including input on business plans, individual bankers’ objective settings, mid-year reviews and appraisals.
• Assist in the setting up and management of the new Resident Office for East Ukraine
• Ensure effective management and supervision of the local staff to include appraisal of Sector Team based in the RO as agreed with Sector Team.
Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at least 12 years of relevant experience with a major development, merchant/investment or commercial banks or institutions in Emerging Market countries, preferably in Southern and Eastern Europe. Other requirements include:
• Recognized and proven structuring and execution skills in private sector deals/equity investments, structuring and closing transactions.
• Excellent negotiating skills are essential. An ability to be attentive to the viewpoints of external business clients and show sensitivity and understanding to cultural differences and complexity of the country's political constraints.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships with local financial institutions and business community representatives.
• A particular emphasis will be placed on strong business development and marketing skills.
• The individual must possess strong management, communication, coaching and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with and manage effectively the assignees and local members of the Ukraine Country Team and HQ based bankers of the Group assigned on specific projects in Ukraine.
• Fluency in oral and written English essential. Fluency or working knowledge of Ukrainian / Russian highly desirable.
